I wish to become a Teacher

17 years old Cookie Lewis always aimed to be a teacher. But, things often are not so easy. Doctors declared Cookie a cardiac patient. Though, the desire was fulfilled but, in a strikingly strange way. Her dream was made true by the team of Make A Wish Foundation Pakistan and by Senior Minister of Education Mr. Nisar Khoro, in Sindh Assembly building who appointed her as a Teacher for a day with one day salary. They ultimately managed ‘one day teaching’ event for Cookie at Government Girls Secondary School. Cookie was heartily welcomed by the administration and pupil of the school. They presented her a bouquet and Sindhi Ajrak. Her grand day began in the assembly hall where Cookie was assigned to maintain discipline among the students. She confidently kept them calm and sang national anthem and special song of martyred children of Army Public School Peshawar. Everyone then marched towards the respective classes and so our Cookie. As Cookie entered the classroom, all the children stood up and greeted her with the cheerful and sing-song chorus of “Good Morning Teacher”. This was Cookie’s first proud moment of the day, with many more to follow!   She was asked to teach the students of grade 6, where she first created a comfortable and friendly environment for the kids. She taught them English. Pupils of her class told us later that they’ve never been introduced by such captivating teaching methodology, like “Miss Cookie” has told them. She applied some wonderful teaching tactics by creating interest in the topics covered by narrating a few folk tales to simplify the subject. Cookie was very engrossed with her new occupation and taught a group of 25-30 kids as naturally as any professional teacher would have. In the end Cookie wrote a message on Blackboard for the students “BE GOOD CITIZENS AND STUDENTS OF PAKISTAN”.   The experience of standing in front of a classroom and teaching her peers made her overjoyed. The young heart set example for the rest of the staff of school. At the end, kids gifted Cookie some chocolates as a token of love, greetings and respect. Staff wished Cookie to get the best in the future. Cookie enjoyed her job to bits and thanked Make A Wish Foundation-Pakistan for such joyful day and now all we have to say is GET WELL SOON COOKIE!
