Salma, a 9 years old girl is suffering from heart complication and being treated at NICVD Hospital. She informed our
volunteers that her innermost wish is to celebrate her birthday and have a party as she never had a birthday celebration before. She also had this unique wish that on this special day she wanted to wear her favourite pink dress and matching shoes.To mark the World Wish Day on 29th April 2010, Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan arranged a birthday party at the hospital as Salma’s health condition did not permit her to leave the hospital. Make A Wish volunteers decorated her room with colourful balloons, and ribbons. Salma looks very beautiful in a branded pink dress with matching pink shoes. When Salma entered the room the guests were singing birthday song and she was greeted by her friends and parents and handing over their birthday gifts.
Salma could not express her excitement and joy in words. She was blushing at the thought of her innermost wish of having birthday party was fulfilled. She didn’t give her illness a second thought all day. Salma’s father was overwhelmed and said that since they were in hospital for quite long time, they were almost loosing hope. He also said that when he saw his daughter blowing up the candles and cutting the cake with her friends around her with many presents and with a huge smile on Salma’s face face, this wish granting event has given them hope, inspiration and strength to stand with Salma to fight her illness. Salma thanked Make-a-Wish Foundation for the fulfillment of her wish with tears in her eyes.
