Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan has organized their first wish granting event coinciding with the Independence Day of Pakistan on 14th August 2009 at MAW Pakistan office in Karachi. The wishes of 3 terminally ill children were granted.The chief guest of the event was Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice (R) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui who is also member of the board. Mr. Javed Miandad Former Captain of Pakistan cricket team, Mr. Saleem Yousuf, test cricketer, Mr. Humayun Saeed, a well known TV and film celebrity distributed the gifts to the wish children. Members of the board and volunteers had also attended the event.
The first wish granted by Make-A-Wish Pakistan was of a 8 years old Abdul Hameed suffering from Job Syndrome and is being treated at Civil Hospital. Abdul Hameed was crazy about playing cricket but since his father could not afford a cricket bat, he plays cricket with a wooden-stick. Abdul Hameed wished to have a cricket bat and to meet his favourite cricket champs. Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan fulfilled Hameed’s wish by giving him the entire cricket set. This was presented to him by his favourite test cricketers Javed Miandad and Saleem Yousuf, with their autographs on the bat. Both cricketers also dressed him like a test cricketer by putting on the helmet, pad and gloves on him. Hameed was overjoyed not only because his wish fulfilled but also because he got to meet his favourite champs.
The second wish granted was of 16 years old Mustafa, suffering from Blood Cancer and is being treated at Fatimid Foundation. Mustafa is very fond of cycling and his wish was to have a bicycle. His parents are poor and could not afford a bicycle for their son. Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan granted Mustafa’s wish by giving him a bicycle which was presented to him by the Former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice (Retd,) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui who is also on the Board of Make-A-Wish Pakistan. Mustafa said,” it was truly the wish of a lifetime, something I will never forget. I thank you MAW from the bottom of my heart.”
The third wish was of 9 years old Mohibullah Wali, is under going treatment for Thalassemia and is being treated at Fatimid Foundation. He spends most of his time in bed. Mohibullah always wanted to have a TV so he could watch his favourite cartoons. Since his parents are jobless and could not afford a TV for their son. Make-A-Wish Pakistan granted the cherished wish of Mohibullah by giving him a colour TV. This was presented to him by his favourite T.V and Film Star Humayun Saeed. Mohibullah could not hide his joy when he was given the T.V set by his favourite star.
